Title: Eddie

Stars: Whoopi Goldberg, Frank Langella

Genre: Comedy

Released: May 1996

My Rating: 4 of 5

IMDB Rating: 4.7 of 10

My Review: Eddie is the ultimate fan, her life revolves around the New York Knicks basketball team even though they are having a bad losing streak.  The team has a new owner who wants them to put on a show which will make him more money as the stands fill.  A chance encounter leads him to find Eddie (Whoopi Goldberg).  In a strange twist she becomes the head coach of the team.  Through trial and error (and a little help from a team member) she realizes what she needs to do in order to get them to play as a team and stop acting like super stars.  She finally gets them working together and winning games when he finds out the new owner is planning on selling the team and moving it to St. Louis.  Eddie and the fans aren’t having that as they fight back and win.

Personal Note: Alot of people didn’t feel the movie was that good, however, I thought it was a good motivational movie that points out that you can lose sight of the important things in life.

SAAB stopped making new vehicles in April of this year after it had some rough times the previous month.  GM spun the brand off and Spyker (now Swedish Automotive) provided financing at the last minute to keep the brand alive.  RIP SAAB.

AT&T finally gave up it’s bid to purchase T-Mobile USA after facing huge opposition from the FCC, DOJ, Sprint and others.  It will take a $4 Billion charge during the 4th quarter of 2011.  It will also enter a favorable roaming agreement with T-Mobile USA and turn over spectrum.  While this is good and bad news for all parties involved, the $4 billion AT&T is paying will go to T-Mobile’s parent company Deutsche Telekom which has repeatedly said it will no longer invest in it’s US company.  Unless T-Mobile can come up with something it may not last very long facing the competitive atmosphere of the US.  It has very limited spectrum for it’s 4G network and it far behind in rolling out the spectrum it does have.
